Pakistan’s film machinery is finally at work and films are releasing one after the other. Bin Roye and Wrong Number proved to be good performers at the box office despite a tough competition from Salman Khan’s much-loved Pak-India peace saga Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
The next one in queue is Wajahat Rauf’s Karachi Se Lahore. Going
by the promos, the film looks very interesting. The plot revolves around the love struck guy Zaheem, who drives all the way to Lahore to stop the love of his life from getting married. He borrows his neighbour Ayesha’s jeep who agrees on the condition that she, along with her brother, will also accompany him on this journey.
As the promotional activities of the film are catching pace, Instep got in touch with the leading man of the film Shahzad Sheikh, who is all praise for his role and the script of the film. Here is what he had to say.
Instep: Tell us something about your experience of this film?
Shahzad Sheikh: The film is based on a road trip that this guy takes on with a purpose of stopping the marriage of the girl he likes. It’s been such a fine experience shooting Karachi Se Lahore. Wajahat has shot it very well, showing various parts of the country. It’s a light rom/com which I believe is the kind of cinema we all crave for especially in Pakistan. Through this journey we’ve all had such a wonderful time together. Despite the fact that the entire film is shot outdoor which is not a very easy thing to do especially in these times in Pakistan, yet the cast and crew had fun almost everywhere.
Instep: Has the role helped you grow as an artist?
SS: I found this role very challenging as an actor as the whole movie revolves around this character Zaheem. I pictured this character while reading the script and that’s exactly how I’ve played this role.
To work in films has always been my dream, and with this film it is now going to come true.
Instep: What made you say yes to this film?
SS: Karachi Se Lahore has a great script. Its written by none other than Yasir Hussain and I am a big fan of his humour. It has some hilarious moments, romance, friendship and an item song as well. All the actors have given their heart to the film and performed honestly. Music of movie is already doing well. I am sure the people are going to love it.
Instep: Technically you made a debut with Main Hoon Shahid Afridi in a negative role with your father. What is his feedback after watching you perform in a male lead?
SS: By the grace of Allah! I am very happy with the feedback I have received on the film not only from him but my co-stars as well. I can feel the excitement he has for this film. And I’m hoping this will just be the start of a successful film career. I have received a lot of support from everyone, which means world to me. And it keeps me going.
Ayesha Omar who is playing the female lead in the film spoke to us about her experience of working with Shahzad. Here is what she had to say about her co-star: “He is extremely patient, quite but also very friendly. The film is very memorable for him because he became a father while shooting for the film. He has worked really hard and I am sure people are going to love him for his work.’’
