Music in Pakistan is constantly evolving as new-age, indie musicians continue to play a strong role in putting forward innovative, obscure and elating ideas that push the envelope. A great recent example is the soundtrack of upcoming Pakistani film, Chalay Thay Saath (CTS) that features artists such as Sikandar Ka Mandar, Mooroo and many more.

It is a proof that you can be creative and sonorous with OSTs without falling into a creative rut. Compare the CTS soundtrack to other film soundtracks like Sahir Lodhi-starrer Raasta and Balu Mahi and you will hear a marked difference.

Fortunately, as more film projects emerge, musicians will have more opportunities to showcase their verve. A case in point is Asim Abbasi’s peculiarly titled upcoming venture, Cake that stars Adnan Malik, Sanam Saeed and Aamina Sheikh. While the film has gone on floors, the exciting news is that the music and score for this film is being produced by The Sketches. The music group, which is spearheaded by Saif Samejo and currently in the running for an Album of the Year nod in the music section of the upcoming Lux Style Awards, confirmed the news on social media recently in joyous fashion.

Samejo, writing on Instagram, noted that the project is promising and emotionally touching and how it’s a departure from anything else the band has done previously. “We’re doing something we haven’t done before musically; the sound is challenging yet very experimental.”
