While Karachi Literature Festival came to an end last weekend, another festival to look forward to is the upcoming ‘I Am Karachi Film Festival’. As the name suggests, the festival aims to screen quite a few films, both local and international, that have never been shown before, at least not on this scale.

The four-day event, scheduled to take place at the Karachi Arts Council and Cinepax Cinemas, will run from February 23 till February 26 and will have on offer diverse cinematic options including foreign films for the denizens of Karachi.

The festival will open with a premiere of Mehreen Jabbar’s long awaited Lala Begum which features Marina Khan, Humayun Saeed and Sonia Rehman Qureshi in lead roles. The opening night will also showcase Harune Massey’s Gardaab that stars Amna Ilyas and Fawad Khan (not the heartthrob) in lead roles. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s documentary Song of Lahore will be premiered on the closing night of the festival.

Aside from local productions that will be screened during I Am Karachi Film Festival, a slew of well-known filmmakers from around the world will also be present. During this inaugural edition of the festival, panel discussions as well as some master classes led by a few filmmakers will also be held. Registrations for the classes are open and seats will be allotted on first come first served basis while entry passes for the festival will be made available at the Karachi Arts Council soon.
