Anjum Shahzad’s Mah-e-Mir may not have been a success at the box office but it garnered immense praise, both in Pakistan and abroad. The film that has been submitted for the 89th Academy Awards’ Best Foreign Language Film category, recently won the Best Narrative Film Award trophy at the Guam International Film Festival. After being showcased in various international film festivals (including that of Milan, Bangalore, Canada), Mah-e-Mir is all set for its premiere in India.
Wondering if this is true, given the ongoing clash between Pakistan and India, we contacted director Anjum Shahzad to confirm the news. “Yes, the film has been selected to be screened in India,” he confirmed. “It will be screened at the Jaipur International Film Festival (JIFF) as well as in Delhi.”
Mah-e-Mir will premiere in Dehli, India, on the 5th of December whereas it will be showcased at the JIFF in January, next year. Aside from screening in India, the film will also be presented at Pakistan’s first film festival to be held in New York, later this week.
Starring Fahad Mustafa, Iman Ali, Sanam Saeed and Alyy Khan, Mah-e-Mir follows the life of a contemporary poet who draws parallels with the life of renowned Urdu poet Mir Taqi Mir as he struggles to make it big.
