The year 2016 hasn’t been kind to Hollywood as a string of high profile films, mostly sequels and franchises, received an underwhelming response from critics, and in some cases, the audience.

According to one report in Variety, ticket sales have gone down ten percent since last year and films like Alice Through the Looking Glass, Warcraft, The Legend of Tarzan and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows actually cost studio(s) millions of dollars in losses.

Though the summer season has seen hits like Captain America: Civil War and Finding Dory but by and large its been a bad time. And so, as more and more actors look towards television for meaningful work, here’s a look at what’s brewing on the TV front.

Jeremy Renner

Harry Potter star Rupert Grint, who essayed the role of Ron Weasley in the film adaptation of the famous J.K Rowling novel series, is all set to headline a TV show. A remake of Guy Ritchie’s film, Snatch, the show will also feature Mission: Impossible II actor Dougray Scott and Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick. With filming beginning in Manchester next week, the show will air on Sony’s streaming platform, Crackle in early 2017.

Jeremy Renner, meanwhile, is also trying his luck on TV. Star of films like The Hurt Locker and Avengers, Renner is producing a historic TV series called Knightfall. So far, Renner is slated to appear on the show in a guest capacity but with Downton Abbey star Tom Cullen also on the roster, it should make for a  pleasant viewing.

Brad Pitt, who is looking mighty impressive these days alongside Marion Cotillard in the trailers of upcoming WWII spy drama Allied, is also gearing up to play producer to a new series by Ryan Murphy. The show is called Feud and will feature American Crime Story and American Horror Story star Sarah Paulson as an actress called Geraldine Page while Pitt will co-executive produce the FX series.

Other heavyweights attached to star in this anthology series include Susan Sarandon, Jessica Lange, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Stanley Tucci.

The world’s highest paid actress, according to Forbes, Scarlett Johansson is also planning to make a detour from the Marvel Avengers universe for a limited series which is based on Edith Wharton’s 1913 novel, The Custom of the Country.

Mix this with the fact that Sherlock’s fourth season is coming in early 2017 and we have a whole lot of TV shows to be thankful for.
