Amongst a myriad of TV plays that center upon the recurrent themes of love, life and relationships, it is interesting to see someone highlight the issue of child abuse and bring it to the small screen. Playing with the theme is upcoming drama serial Udaaree, an initiative by Kashf foundation - a non-profit microfinance institution that supports low-income households.
The play features the talented and versatile Ahsan Khan in a pivotal role, who will be seen in a “dark, negative sort of character”. “I refused to do this role when it was initially offered to me by Momina Duraid thinking that it will leave a negative impression on people. But later on, I realized that it is rare for TV plays to intend to convey a strong message and so I decided to be a part of it,” Khan shared in a quick telephonic conversation with Instep.
Talking about the story of the play, Khan revealed, “Udaaree basically follows two main tracks; music and child abuse.” While it is difficult to relate the two, Khan said that the two are interlinked. “This is going to be a heavy play for the audience; it will serve as an eye-opener. Music is given enhancement in this play so that people have better interest in life,” he added.
“Acting is my passion and I always go for roles that allow me to diversify as an actor. The role I am playing in this one is something that I’ve never done before,” Khan maintained, who is also working on his big screen project Chupan Chupai that features him in a comic role.
With the aim to create awareness among the masses, Udaaree focuses on the issue of child sexual abuse and how it is plaguing the development of society.
Directed by Mohammed Ehteshamuddin of Sadqay Tumhare and Preet Na Kariyo Koi, the play also stars Samiya Mumtaz, singer-turned-actor Farhan Saeed, Urwa Hocane and Bushra Ansari in important roles. Udaaree is expected to be launched within a month.
