Bollywood film Raazi is not anti-Pakistan, says Meghna Gulzar
After Bollywood’s film Raazi failed to hit Pakistani theaters this month, the director of the film has come forward saying that the spy thriller is not anti-Pakistan at all.
Daughter of celebrated Indian poet Gulzar and director of the Alia Bhatt starrer Raazi, Meghna Gulzar has come forward clarifying that her latest directorial is based primarily on patriotism which does not necessarily equate to it containing anti-Pakistan elements.
In conversation with Indian media outlet, Meghna stated: “When you are making a film on patriotism and you are not bashing Pakistan, you need brave people to back it and that’s what the cast and crew have done.”
The 44-year-old director also revealed that she made sure not to misrepresent the armies of either of the countries, something that happens quite often in films portraying themes of patriotism.
“Pakistanis are humans too. We don’t need to show others are bad people just to show ourselves as good. Raazi did not need anything that was anti-Pakistan which is why it was best not to add masala to it to make it saleable,” Meghna stated.
The thriller film based on Hari Sikka’s book titled ‘Calling Sehmat’ follows the life of an Indian spy who marries a Pakistani army officer to deliver inside information to her handlers.
