RIYADH: The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has asked Muslims throughout the Kingdom to sight the crescent of the holy month of Ramadan on Tuesday evening, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Sunday.
According to the SPA, the top court called on the people to sight the crescent by naked eyes or through binoculars and to report it to the nearest court and register his testimony, or report to the authority of the region's center in his area where he sighted the crescent to facilitate his reaching to the nearest court.
Muslims all over the world fast during the days of this month and make special prayers at night.
The month of Ramadan traditionally begins with a new moon sighting, marking the start of the ninth month in the Islamic calendar.
During this period, Muslims keep fast abstain from food, drink, and other certain activities during daylight hours.
Ramadan ends when the first crescent of the new moon is sighted again. Eid-ul- Fitr is the Islamic holiday that marks the end of Ramadan.
