Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, five Indian soldiers went missing after two avalanches hit Indian army camps in Gurez area of Bandipora and Nowgam in Kupwara on Tuesday.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the upper parts of Gurez and Tulail have received heavy snow since Sunday evening while Gurez is considered as one of the most avalanche-prone areas of occupied Kashmir. Since Sunday night, the area has had snowfall reaching almost 5 feet.
Earlier in January this year, 10 Indian soldiers were killed due to avalanche in Gurez near Line of Control in Bandipora district.
On the other hand, Srinagar turned into white heaven on Tuesday after recording first snowfall of the season. Rooftops and trees turned white as people woke up in the city on Tuesday morning. The open fields, parks and roads were also under white blanket.
