LONDON: A colorful premier of 'Darkest Hour' sets up in Britain in which actors Gary Oldman and Kristin Scott Thomas, playing Winston Churchill and his wife, respectively, attended the premiere in Leicester Square London.

The British star, 59, hit the red carpet in London’s Leicester Square hours after bagging a Golden Globes nomination for his role as the late Winston Churchill in the Joe Wright directed film.

The story of the film, 'Darkest Hour', revolves around Churchill and about the days of his becoming prime minister of Great Britain, Churchill must face one of his most turbulent and defining trials: exploring a negotiated peace treaty with Nazi Germany, or standing firm to fight for the ideals, liberty and freedom of a nation.

As the unstoppable Nazi forces roll across Western Europe and the threat of invasion is imminent, and with an unprepared public, a skeptical king, and his own party plotting against him, Churchill must withstand his darkest hour, rally a nation, and attempt to change the course of world history.

Directed by Joe Wright the cast include Gary Oldman, Kristin Scott Thomas, Lily James, Stephen Dillane, Ronald Pickup, and Ben Mendelsohn.

The film will be celebrated by cinema houses on December 29.
