Los Angles: The Sind Association of North America (SANA) held its 33rd convention in Los Angeles last week. Guests from Pakistan, India, Europe, America and Canada participated in the conference.
This year, the topic was: 'GIRLS EDUCATION AND IT’S IMPORTANCE’.
Mr. Abdul Jabbar Memon , Consul General of Pakistan also attended the event. He said that he was very pleased to see Sindhis from all over the world at the event.
He said that it was his desire to talk about all current issues facing the Sindhi community.
Discussing the lack of proper education system in Sindh, Memon said it was becoming a cultural practice to blame others for "our failures".
"Political leaders and the bureaucrats are responsible for shaping policies of the government. If you want to destroy a nation, destroy their education system"
The President of SANA, Mr. Muhammad Ali Mahar addressed the Convention. Others to address the convention included: Khalid Memon, Sani Pawar , Ghulam Mohiuddin Memon, Zafar Agha, Zakir Bulo, commissioner from Tharparker, Shafeeq Mehaser, Dr. Riffat Ansari..
A number of individuals were given awards in recognition for their services.
The convention lasted for three days. Culture, education, health and literature were some of the topics discussed at the conference.
In the Education session, intellectuals , scholars and writers from Karachi and Los Angeles took part in a video conference including Dr Mehtab Akbar Rashdi , renowned scholar and member of the Provincial Assembly of Sind.
Singer Humera Channa and Arshad Mehmood took part in Mehfil e Mausiqi to amuse the audience.
The conference was managed by committee Chairman Mr. Sani Pawar and his team.
In all, 14 resolutions were passed unanimously in the convention, which highlighted declaration of Sindhi as National Language and protection of rights and liberties of minorities in Sindh.
