Dan Driscoll resigns as US Army Secretary after tensions with Pete Hegseth
Dan Driscoll, longtime friend of Vice President JD Vance, worked closely with former Army chief of staff Gen. Randy George
US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has submitted his resignation to President Donald Trump following months of reported tension with Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth.
According to a report by CNN, citing multiple sources that confirmed Driscoll's decision, with one telling outlet the departure was unsurprising given his strained relationship with Hegseth.
Another source said Driscoll raised concerns about Army transformation and readiness, including “Hegseth’s blocking those efforts specifically by firing the generals who were responsible.”
An Army official told CNN that Driscoll “spoke to the president about the current state of the Army and submitted his resignation.”
It remains unclear when Driscoll will officially leave. Under Secretary of the Army Mike Obadal would typically become acting secretary.
Driscoll, an Army veteran and longtime friend of Vice President JD Vance, worked closely with former Army chief of staff Gen. Randy George, who Hegseth fired earlier this year.
Driscoll publicly praised George during a congressional appearance in April.
“I adore them. And he was an amazing, transformational leader,” Driscoll said of George and his family.
The White House praised Driscoll's tenure, saying he had been “highly effective” in advancing Trump's agenda and strengthening Army readiness.
