Nine people are confirmed dead ​in Erie, Pennsylvania, authorities ‌said, after what Governor Josh Shapiro ​called a "tragic mass ​shooting."

The suspected shooter also died from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The incident occurred late ⁠Friday and investigators ​determined that all ​deaths occurred before officers arrived at the scene, a ​statement from ​the city of Erie said ‌on ⁠Saturday.

“I have not seen anything like this in my 28-plus years,” Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah told a local news station. 

“I’m not sure that the city of Erie has ever seen the loss of life and the devastation that we just witnessed.”

Governor Josh Shapiro ​ wrote in a Saturday morning post on X, "I’ve spoken with Mayor Devlin and offered my Administration’s ​full support ​following ⁠the tragic mass shooting in ​Erie last ​night — ⁠killing nine of our fellow Pennsylvanians." ⁠
