Jamie Carragher, Piers Morgan in heated clash over Cristiano Ronaldo
Clash started when Carragher called Morgan and Rio Ferdinand embarrassing themselves for defending Ronaldo
Jamie Carragher and Piers Morgan have engaged in a war of words on social media over Cristiano Ronaldo.
The feud started when Carragher called Morgan and Rio Ferdinand "embarrassing themselves” for defending Ronaldo after his sudden walk-out from Portugal’s national team camp following a dispute with coach Jorge Jesus over playing time and being benched.
Although the 41-year-old later apologized for his behavior, he accused Jesus of breaking a promise.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s allies Piers Morgan and Rio Ferdinand defended the Al Nassr striker. Morgan compared Jesus to Erik ten Hag, while Ferdinand criticized Ronaldo’s treatment as "inappropriate."
Carragher slammed both pundits on the Overlap Daily, stating ‘People like Piers Morgan and Rio Ferdinand, who are big people in the media whether you like them or not, are embarrassing themselves with the nonsense that they’re coming out with because they know Ronaldo.”
In response, Morgan hit back by sharing an image of Carragher and Liverpool players supporting Luis Suarez after his 2011 racial abuse ban, questioning Carragher's stance on “defending the indefensible.”
Carragher in a recent post admitted his past mistake on Suarez, apologized years ago.
He wrote on X, “We as a team did support our teammate and we were wrong. I apologised to Patrice on tv years ago, which then prompted Liverpool to send him a letter also apologising which was the right thing to do.”
Accusing Morgan of overreacting while chasing Ronaldo interviews, Carragher said, “You batter people every day, when it’s the other way you storm out of a tv studio or get personal. All to get another interview you sycophant.”
In a second post, he wrote, “I also wouldn’t be getting personal with your history or the other two you’re defending, now that would be defending the indefensible.”
The hot exchange between two personalities took the internet by storm, drawing mixed reactions from fans. The war of words also highlights how personal ties and past controversies shape football punditry debates.
