Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's son Maddox legally changes his name

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's son Pax is the last one still using Jolie-Pitt surname after Maddox became the latest to drop his father's surname.

A Los Angeles judge approved his petition on Monday, legally changing his name from Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt to Maddox Chivan Jolie, court documents revealed.

Maddox, 25, appeared remotely for the hearing alongside his attorney. The judge's order confirmed there were no objections to the request, and the name change was finalised that day.

Maddox filed his petition back in May, citing personal reasons for the change. He had already begun using his mother's surname publicly before the petition was finalised, including being credited as "Maddox Jolie" for his work as an assistant director on Jolie's film Couture earlier this year.

The legal name change comes after a required legal step in California, where Maddox and his sister Zahara had both taken out newspaper announcements earlier this summer disclosing their petitions to drop "Pitt" from their names, giving the public a chance to object beforehand.

Maddox joins several of his siblings in stepping away from their father's surname.

Sister Shiloh successfully completed a similar name change in 2024 after turning 18, while Zahara filed her own petition this year to become Zahara Marley Jolie. Vivienne also filed paperwork shortly after her 18th birthday this July to remove "Pitt" from her name. 

Additionally, brother Knox also reportedly used the name Knox Jolie on his high school diploma after turning 18. However, he is yet to file legally for name change. 

So far, Pax is the only Jolie-Pitt child still using both names in his surname both professionally and legally.

Jolie and Pitt finalised their divorce in December 2024, after more than eight years of legal proceedings after Jolie first filed to end the marriage in 2016.
