Little Big Town reveals the song that almost didn't make any album

Little Big Town opened up about the song that took years to finally find its place on their latest album.

The country group, which includes members Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook and Phillip Sweet, released their 12th studio album It's a Dying Art on August 28. Among the album's tracks is Long Way to Your Heart, a song that the group had been holding onto for several years.

Speaking with People Magazine, Fairchild said, "And as a band, just using our voices and our gifts and making something that only the four of us can make together [feels important]."

"Think about all the things that our grandmothers did — the writing notes, the quilting, the picking flowers out of the garden and dropping them at a friend’s house — I think this record has the ability to celebrate all those things and relationships that last a long time and what hard work it takes to see that through," she added.

About the track Long Way to Your Heart, Fairchild shared, "We never could really figure out what record it was going to be on. It could have been on any of them."

"It just didn’t work out until now. I’m so glad it did. I love the song so much," Westbrook added.

He shared that when he listened to the track "a couple of record cycles back" he noted that the tune hadn't found its way to the right album until now. Fairchild said, "I think it happens a lot more than people would know about."

"Sometimes you try and force it and it’s like, ‘Eh, I don’t know, what is it missing?’ And we don’t ever want to have that feeling. We want to be able to look at a record and go, ‘Can’t wait to sing all of these songs on stage for the fans.’ We can’t have any ones that we’re like, ‘Wish I hadn’t cut that,'" Fairchild added.

It is pertinent to mention that the Little Big Town is set to kick off their For the Art of It Tour on September 24, 2026.
