Dolly Parton's unexpected reason for staying out of Jennifer Aniston's '9 to 5' remake resurfaces
The late legendery country singer made her Hollywood screen debut with '9 to 5'
Dolly Parton, also known as the Queen of the Country, once declined her wish to make a cameo in Jennifer Aniston's remake of 9 to 5.
The legendary country musician, who passed away on Tuesday, August 25, at the age of 80, made her Hollywood debut with the original 9 to 5, a workplace comedy released in 1980.
Decades later, a remake by writer Diablo Cody was announced with Jennifer Aniston producing it.
Parton, who lost the battle with cancer, revealed her excitement over the reboot in 2024 and asked for her cameo in the movie.
She said at the time, as per the Daily Mail, "I'm hoping they use my song, and I'm hoping they might find a way to have Lily, Jane and me come back in."
However, shortly after, Parton stepped back from her plan and noting that she was hesitant due to her age.
"I think a lot of it is that, you know, we're all older now. We're not gonna look that good on the big screen. All of us up there with all those beautiful, young, fresh people... So I don't know," she told HuffPost last year.
Parton further added that she "had no plans to be in" Aniston's reimagining.
For those unversed, in the classic cult movie, also starring Jane Fonda, 88, and Lily Tomlin, 86, Parton, along with Jane and Lily, takes daring ways to deal with their sexist boss portrayed by the late Dabney Coleman.
Parton wrote the titular song for the film which later led her to win an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song in 1981.
In the end, Parton did not make a cameo in the remake but did allow her music to be used for the movie.
