Montreal airport worker dies after aircraft strikes him while backing up

An airport worker has died after being struck by an aircraft at Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, authorities said Tuesday.

According to CTV News, emergency services were called at about 7:30 PM on Monday after the man, an employee of Samsic, was struck by an aircraft that was backing up on the airport tarmac.

The airport confirmed the worker's death on Tuesday morning and said support was being provided to employees and passengers who witnessed the incident.

“The loss of a member of our airport community affects us all deeply. During this difficult time, our thoughts are with the employee’s family, loved ones and colleagues, to whom we extend our heartfelt sympathy and sincere condolences,” ADM president and CEO Yves Beauchamp said in a statement.

Montreal police attended the scene and said the investigation had been transferred to Employment and Social Development Canada.

Officers and crime scene investigators remained at the airport as authorities worked to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.

Airport operations have continued despite the investigation, according to CTV News.

Teh airport advised passengers to check their flight status directly with their airline before travelling as operations continue.
