Dr. Dre delivers sharp message for musicians fearing AI

Several figures in the music industry have expressed apprehensions about the rise of artificial intelligence. But not Dr. Dre.

On the contrary, he took a dismissive stance toward fears of AI.

In a new interview with The New York Times, he delved into what he believes is not a reason to stay afraid.

“I think the only people that see it as a threat are the people who have trouble creating," the Apple Beats CEO said.

With a career stretching over four decades, Dre has seen several technologies enter the music-maker toolbox.

Drum machine and synthesizer, for example.

And the Aftermath record label founder cited them when he encountered his fellow industry figures who were strongly against AI.

“I had a discussion with a few people a few days ago,” he said.

“They were against AI, and I’m like, ‘OK, you sound like the person that would have been against the drum machine when it came out.’

"Or synthesizers, right? It’s a new tool for creativity. Some people are afraid of learning new things," the rapper stated.

Defending isn't alone when it comes to AI; Dre went even further.

He said he is already tweaking with AI in his music, “as a tool to see what it would do with what I just did.”

Dre's remarks in support come as the industry is divided over the use of AI.
