Iman Vellani imagines replacing Marvel boss and reveals her plan for the MCU
Imam Vellani's plan ostensibly stands at odds with the presumably current Marvel approach
What if Imam Vellani hypothetically replaces Kevin Feige as the chief of Marvel Studios?
She would change several aspects she said are not going in the right direction in the franchise.
Sitting with the host of Revenge Of — a YouTube channel focusing on comic books — she said her aim if she were to head the MCU would be to take the franchise back to its roots.
Grounded stories, versatile characters, and fewer multiverse events.
"I'm such a sucker for simple stories. Universe-ending stakes are exciting, and they're fun, but you've got to build up to that, and you've got to earn it," she said.
"I would go back and like focus on genre and smaller characters in smaller movies," the actress shared.
Standalone movies, Vellani said, are the mojo of Marvel.
She gave an example of her own character, Kamala Khan.
"I think if we're talking about Ms. Marvel, that's a character who really succeeds in her own world," the star said.
Bringing the X-Men into the chat, Vellani said Marvel has been working to introduce them for some time, and she's been game for it.
However, the heart of Ms. Marvel's story is being a center in her own world, not necessarily teaming up for a world-ending event.
"They've been trying to bring her into the X-Men for so long in the comics now, and I think that's fun and I love seeing her interact with any other superhero."
She continued, "But I just love her own world, and I love her own cast of characters… and the way Kamala sees the world – I want that just amplified through the filmmaking."
Though Vellani hasn't been against crossovers, she argued it would first need the legwork to make it whole, or simply "earn it."
