Gianni Infantino’s proposed salary revealed in scrapped FIFA World Cup privatization plan
Infantino was eyeing a much bigger payday through his plans of privatize the World Cup
FIFA President Gianni Infantino was forced to abandon his “FIFA Forward Enterprise” project, a divestment plan for the World Cup which would have yielded a major windfall for Infantino.
Infantino was cornered after his plans for the FFE collapsed after an adverse reaction from member confederations.
Informants are claiming to uncover details on how this would have personally benefited Infantino before the desired proposal was forced to a halt.
According to Martyn Zeigler of The Times, who first revealed Infantino’s FFE plans; reports that whistleblowers told him Infantino targeted a $30 million basic salary and bonuses to lead the new commercial entity, far exceeding the 4.8 million Swiss francs FIFA currently pays its president.
This is a massive figure, but Infantino was reportedly seeking a more lucrative contract through his plans of privatizing the World Cup.
Infantino declared publicly that he would not line his own pockets himself through the project, but Zeigler’s whistleblowers claim the opposite contradiction.
Infantino's plan would have provided each FIFA member association upwards of $20 million as an initial capital outlay, but most confederations opposed this plan as a united front and got Infantino to scrap it.
Nonetheless, most countries would have supported Infantino after receiving their first payment. Ultimately, spilling the beans early allowed the project to be leaked and shut down before it was formally proposed.
