Trump says he may temporarily withdraw Todd Blanche nomination

US President Donald Trump has said he is willing to temporarily withdraw Todd Blanche's nomination for US attorney general after two Republican senators continued to oppose his confirmation.

According to CNBC, Trump suggested delaying the nomination until Senators John Cornyn and Thom Tillis leave office next year if they continue to block Blanche's appointment.

Writing on Truth Social, Trump described Blanche as "is a STAR," and said: "I have no objection to temporarily withdrawing Todd’s name, if they do not do the right thing, and putting him back after Cornyn and Tillis are out of office."

The comments came after the Senate Judiciary Committee postponed a scheduled vote on Blanche's nomination.

CNBC reported that the delay followed concerns from Cornyn and Tillis over the Department of Justice's settlement of Trump's lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Cornyn responded on X, saying Trump "is mistaken if he believes concerns about the provisions in his tax lawsuit settlement are limited to me and Senator Tillis."

Tillis said his concerns could be resolved if the administration provided further assurances over the settlement.

Blanche has served as acting attorney general since April following the departure of Pam Bondi.

His nomination remains uncertain while Republican lawmakers continue negotiations with the Justice Department.
