More than $20,000 have been raised to help fund the search for Elizabeth Waddell, a North Carolina mom, who went missing in Grenada.
A GoFundMe was launched after local authorities and her family failed to find her whereabouts.
The authorities said Elizabeth “Liz” Waddell, 44, arrived in Grenada with a friend on July 11 and spent the first 10 days at a resort on the west side of the island before moving to another accommodation located in the south on Tuesday, July 21.
She was was last seen swimming near Grand Anse Beach in St. George’s on Wednesday, July 22.
Police said investigators have also received several eyewitness accounts indicating that she was swimming in the open water.”
The GoFoundMe appeal reads:
Liz Waddell, a beloved friend and member of the Cary community, went missing while on a trip to Grenada. Liz disappeared after going down to Grand Anse Beach for a swim, and Grenadian authorities are working tirelessly to locate her. Her husband, Cailen, and close friends are staying strong and hopeful as search efforts continue, but the need for support is urgent.
Liz is the kind of person who brings joy to everyone she meets—she’ll join kids playing in the park, and she treats friends like family. When we learned about Liz’s disappearance, our hearts broke, but we are determined to help bring her home.
Funds raised will go directly toward search costs, including travel and resources needed to support Cailen and the search team in Grenada. Any money not needed for the mission will be donated to refugee programs and charities, continuing Liz's legacy of kindness and compassion.
No detail is too small and we appreciate your support. Please keep Liz and her family in your thoughts.”
