US strikes on Iran leave family, including children trapped under rubble on Qeshm Island

At least three people remain trapped under rubble after US strikes hit a residential building on Qeshm Island, according to Iranian officials, as Washington confirmed a wave of attacks across southern Iran.

According to Al Jazeera, two children were rescued from the debris and taken to hospital. Officials said the building housed a family of five and that rescue teams were continuing efforts to reach the remaining occupants.

Iranian authorities also reported power outages on Qeshm Island following the strikes, while electricity restoration and debris clearance operations were under way.

The latest attacks also targeted Kish Island, Kazerun in Fars province, and several locations in Khuzestan, a key oil-producing region.

Iranian officials said explosions heard in Bandar Abbas were echoes from the strike on Qeshm Island rather than attacks on the city itself.

Meanwhile, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it had completed a "heavy wave of strikes against Iran" after what it described as attempted Iranian missile attacks on American forces in Jordan.

CENTCOM said it struck "military command centres, missile and drone facilities, coastal surveillance and defence sites, and maritime capabilities."

It added that the operation aimed to "further diminish threats posed by Iran and its proxies to American forces, commercial shipping, and neighbouring Gulf nations".
