US President Donald Trump is considering options to expand military operations against Iran, including possible strikes on key strategic targets, according to CNN.
The broadcaster, citing two sources familiar with the matter, reported that Trump discussed potential military action during a Situation Room meeting on Tuesday.
The talks reportedly focused on increasing pressure on Iran and weakening its ability to control the Strait of Hormuz.
According to CNN, the US has carried out daily strikes over the past five days against Iranian military positions near the strait.
Officials reportedly said the attacks are intended to reduce Iran's ability to disrupt commercial shipping while also preparing for possible wider military operations.
CNN reported that Trump is also considering targeting Kharg Island, Iran's main oil export hub, and underground facilities at Pickaxe Mountain, which are believed to be linked to Iran's nuclear programme.
Speaking to Fox News, Trump said: “We have other people that will do the ground campaign for us.”
At a defence industry event in Pennsylvania, he added: “They want to settle so badly. They don’t like what we’re doing, and they do want to settle. We’ll find out whether or not we settle with them, or we just finish it off.”
Vice President JD Vance told Joe Rogan's podcast that diplomacy remained essential, saying: “So you’ve got to actually be willing to talk and to try to figure out the problem.”
