Trump orders end to ICE traffic stop pause amid criticism from allies

US President Donald Trump has reversed a temporary suspension of most Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) traffic stops after criticism from prominent supporters over the administration's immigration policy.

According to CNN, ICE agents had been instructed to largely pause vehicle stops while officials reviewed safety procedures following two fatal immigration enforcement shootings in Houston and Maine.

CNN reported that White House border adviser Tom Homan described the move as a temporary measure, but Trump reportedly became angry after media coverage suggested his administration was easing immigration enforcement.

Early on Wednesday, Trump announced the reversal on Truth Social, writing: “The Radical Left Dumocrats would like to see this done, but it won’t happen on my watch.”

CNN reported that the original guidance had not been communicated to Trump before it was introduced.

The temporary suspension also drew criticism from several prominent figures within the president's political base, who argued it weakened immigration enforcement.

Following the reversal, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said: “President Trump and I are on the same page. We want our ICE officers to have all options available to keep them safe while executing our mission of deporting as many illegal alien criminals from our country as possible.”

The Department of Homeland Security has also announced plans to accelerate the rollout of body cameras for ICE officers following the recent fatal shootings.
