Lamine Yamal’s home targeted in burglary attempt hours after Spain reaches World Cup Final
Lamine Yamal’s targeted home was formerly owned by Barca great Gerard Pique and Colombian music star Shakira
Soon after Spain qualified for the World Cup 2026 Final, another news from La Roja caught immediate attention after an attempted burglary targeted the home of 19-year-old Spain and Barcelona star Lamine Yamal early on Wednesday morning.
Around 4:00 AM on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, two hooded individuals wearing balaclavas attempted to scale the perimeter wall of Yamal's luxury mansion in Esplugues de Llobregat, a residential area on the outskirts of Barcelona.
All that attention and excitement shifted from celebration to concern as the incident occurred just hours after he helped guide La Roja to the FIFA World Cup final with a 2-0 victory over France in Texas, USA.
As reported by AFP, a spokesperson for Catalan regional police informed the news agency, “There was an attempted burglary at a home in Esplugues de Llobregat” in Barcelona’s outskirts.
The high-profile property, valued at an estimated £9.5 million, is notable for once being the home of former Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué and pop star Shakira
The force declined to identify the property’s owner for privacy reasons, but Barcelona-based daily La Vanguardia said the house belonged to the 19-year-old Spain forward.
As informed by the officials, two people wearing balaclavas climbed onto the house’s wall but were surprised by private security guards and fled, La Vanguardia reported.
The suspects were quickly spotted on CCTV cameras by Yamal's private security detail. Realizing they had been detected, the intruders fled the scene immediately without gaining entry to the house or stealing any belongings.
Yamal won a first-half penalty that Mikel Oyarzabal converted to open the scoring. The forward also helped Barca defend La Liga, the Spanish domestic league title, last season.
The newspaper said Yamal’s house is well known because it once belonged to Barcelona football great Gerard Pique and his ex-partner, Colombian music star Shakira, when they lived together in the Catalan capital.
In Madrid, Karim Benzema, Rodrygo and Dani Carvajal are among the football stars to have suffered break-ins at their homes in recent years.
