Taking it to the official Instagram account of the royal family, the monarch marks 100 years of the remarkable day in royal history.

The caption began, "On the final day of another thrilling @Wimbledon Championships, with to all those who have participated, did you know…."

"100 years ago, in 1926, His Majesty’s grandfather King George VI became the first and only member of the Royal Family to compete at Wimbledon."

Along with the caption, a video of King George is also shared, showing the then Duke of York playing Tennis with his close friend and mentor, Sir Louis Greig.

However, they were defeated in the first round by former champions Arthur Gore and Herbert Roper Barrett.

They continued, "Playing in the Gentlemans’ Doubles. It was, alas, a resounding defeat!"

The caption concluded with a humorous take, reading, "Ah well, there’s always the strawberries!"

The stroll back in memory lane came as today, June 12, the 2026 Wimbledon tournament's men's singles final is all set to begin between World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev.

A day before, it was the women's singles final and 21-year-old Linda Noskova claimed her first Grand Slam title by defeating Karolina Muchova.
