Why Kanye West second San Antonio show won't happen while Tampa concert went on?
Kanye West’s concerts have been drawing sharply divided responses since his comeback
Kanye West has become a lightning rod in pop culture. Mainly, his concerts have been drawing a mixed set of responses.
For example, in Tampa, Florida, criticism mounted on the organizers to axe Ye’s shows due to his past controversies.
Still, the concert went on.
However, the story of the rapper’s San Antonio show took a turn.
West is set to hit the stage on July 4 at the Alamodome, a stadium in the city.
But in the contract, the rapper’s promoter had been given an option to add a second show on July 5.
However, according to San Antonio Current, the deadline to request an additional date has expired, meaning Ye will not get a second show in the city.
Yet, there is a fair share of pushback against West’s announced show in San Antonio.
The city’s mayor, Gina Ortiz Jones, publicly expressed a wish to axe the show.
In a tweet, she said, “Military City USA should not host someone with a record of hate speech and antisemitic comments in a city-funded facility like our Alamodome — not ever, and certainly not on July 4th, our nation's 250th birthday.”
Despite being a mayor, Jones admitted she did not have enough support from the council.
"The fact that we even had to ask for those things is ludicrous," the mayor said.
Meanwhile, reports say West’s concert may contribute $1.7 million to San Ontiono’s local economy.
