Trump warns Giorgia Meloni over Iran: ‘Not good’—Here's why

US President Donald Trump has escalated his ongoing public feud with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, but this time by warning Italy over Iran.

The bitter dispute between the United States and Italy started when President Trump claimed that Giorgia Meloni begged for a photo with him at the G7 summit in France. In response, the Italian prime minister fired back, stating, “Italy and I never beg” and called Trump’s behaviour “senseless and unprovoked.”

Now the feud that started from the photo now has reached Iran, taking the shape of political hostility. In a recent series of posts on Truth Social, President Trump accused Italy of providing inadequate support to the US in a conflict with Iran.

Speaking about the “great logistic inconvenience”, Trump said the country would not even let us use the “Italy's landing strips or runways.”

Trump emphasized that the US "contributes hundreds of billions of dollars a year to protect Italy."

In a recent post on Truth Social, President Trump once again targeted Italy over her total refusal to confront Iran’s nuclear danger despite decades of massive American NATO defense spending that assists Italy.

Trump posted, “After spending Trillions of Dollars on NATO, Italy, and its Prime Minister, wouldn’t even think of becoming involved with the Islamic Republic of Iran and their very serious Nuclear Threat.”

Trump added that the United States spent money to “defend them, but, when tested, they are not there to defend us, and the rest of the World. Not good!”

Giorgia Milani has not yet responded to the recent remarks coming from President Trump. But previously Meloni refused to accept Trump’s offensive remarks, claiming that Italy still supports US military bases and NATO obligations.

In the wake of intensified hostility between the countries, the foreign minister of Italy Antonio Tajani, postponed his visit to the US which was planned for Sunday and Monday.
