Lukas Gage recently revealed why he does not believe in “love at first sight” and what he searches for in his next relationship.

On Tuesday, June 16, the 31-year-old American actor attended the premiere of his new Netflix romantic comedy, Voicemails for Isabelle, in Hollywood, California.

While conversing with PEOPLE magazine about his recently released romance comedy film, Gage was asked about what he thinks of “rom-com love,” especially when he thinks of love in real life.

Articulating his thoughts, he said, “You know, a lot of people think that it's like a very quick, you know, love-at-first-sight kind of situation, and I disagree with that.”

“I think a real rom-com love is something that grows over time, and is something that you have to start with a good foundation, like a friendship, you know? It doesn't need to be this crazy, love-at-first-sight feeling,” the Euphoria star explained.

Notably, this comes after Gage admitted that he lost himself too quickly in his marriage to celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton in April 2023, which could not last, and they both ended up breaking up just after seven months.

Despite his failed relationship, The White Lotus actor did not let his personal life affect his career and remains devoted to his work. His new film is evidence of his dedication to his craft.

It is pertinent to mention that Voicemails for Isabelle, released on June 19, 2026, cast Lukas Gage as Arthur alongside an ensemble cast, including Zoey Deutch, Nick Offerman, Nick Robinson, Toby Sandeman, Ciara Bravo, Spencer Lord, Harry Shum Jr., Megan Danso, and others.
