US gas prices drop below $4 after Iran deal
US average gasoline prices fell below $4 a gallon for the first time in months after a reported Iran deal eased global oil supply concerns
The US gas prices drops below $4 a gallon soon after Iran deal finalized.
As per AAA data., the US national average gasoline price dropped to $3.99 per gallon on Thursday, June 18.
The change in gas price drop marks the first time since March 2026 following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the U.S. and Iran
The price drop is considered as the lowest since late March when US-Israel-Iran conflict closed the Strait of Hormuz while still above pre-war levels of $2.98, economists predict further declines as supply stabilizes, bringing relief during summer travel season.
As reported, the new US-Iran MoU extended the ceasefire, addressed nuclear commitments, and reopened the strait for oil tankers, easing supply fears and dropping crude prices to around $75-$78 per barrel.
Markets are reacting positively to the speed at which the agreement was reached, though analysts emphasize that logistical bottlenecks, such as clearing mines and backlogged vessels in the Gulf.
Gas prices in the U.S. are closely linked to global crude oil prices.
When oil supply increases or geopolitical tensions ease, crude prices tend to fall, which eventually reduces the cost of gasoline at the pump.
In this case, the “Iran deal” suggests a development that may reduce supply disruptions or increase oil exports from the region. Even the expectation of more stable or higher global oil supply can be enough to push oil prices down in financial markets.
As a result, lower crude oil costs are passed through to consumers, bringing average U.S. gas prices below the $4 per gallon level.
Experts suggests this kind of move closely impact economy as fuel prices directly affect inflation, transportation costs, and overall consumer spending.
