Samsung's AI to spot pet health issues from photo

AI on your phone can already transcribe calls and edit photos. Now Samsung wants it to flag your dog's knee problems. The company announced an AI-powered pet care feature at VivaTech 2026, Europe's largest startup and tech conference, developed in partnership with pet health startup Lifet.

The tool will enable users with the Galaxy device to take photos of their pets and obtain a health report generated by the AI, which will screen for the presence of dental problems, cataracts, and patella luxation in small dogs.

How does Samsung's AI pet feature work?

The tool can be accessed using the SmartThings application along with the Pet Care service offered by Lifet on the user’s Galaxy device. 

Once set up, a photo is uploaded and analysed by Lifet's AI system, developed by Elevenliter. Samsung notes that availability will vary by country, device model, and region.

LifeT currently provides an analysis of pet diseases using their website and claims a success rate of 97% for the diseases they diagnose.

Samsung launched the feature at the Connected Care Ecosystem Zone of the VivaTech event, showcasing how its Galaxy range of phones, as well as the Samsung Health platform, were positioning themselves as being orientated toward proactive health care not only for humans but apparently even for their pets.

The significance of the Lifet deal lies in the fact that the startup is an incubatee of Samsung through its external startup incubation program.
