Apple rolls out new Siri AI beta—but not in the EU or China

On September 9, Apple reportedly launched the updated Siri with Apple intelligence features in English beta for compatible devices followed by French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish in October.

The rollout is currently unavailable in the European Union due to compliance challenges with the Digital Markets Act as well as in China over local regulatory requirements, though Mac and Vision Pro users in the EU can still access specific features.

Following the announcement, many users expressed frustration online in posts specifying the exemptions and questioning the EU rules. Apple plans broader language support eventually, including 16 total languages but excluded markets awaiting policy changes.

Siri is powered by the conversational capabilities of Apple Intelligence. At this year’s Worldwide developers’ conference, Apple announced that its own upgraded version will be powered by Google Gemini models.

Moreover, Siri can efficiently browse the internet for information, answer requests using natural language processing and easily understand exactly what’s happening on your screen. Siri can expand your images or even reframe one’s perspective. Siri is further integrated into writing across Apple applications including Notes, email and text messaging.
