Apple launches Watch Series 11 and Ultra 4 with heart rate readings every five seconds
Apple said it tested the new sensor against competing fitness trackers and a chest strap and found its technology to be the most accurate
Apple has unveiled its new Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, introducing upgraded heart rate tracking and new health and fitness features.
The company announced the two smartwatches on Wednesday, with both receiving improved sensors that measure a user’s heart rate every five seconds and track heart rate variability.
Apple said it tested the new sensor against competing fitness trackers and a chest strap and found its technology to be the most accurate.
The company is also adding a readiness feature to the Vitals app, similar to tools already offered by Oura and Fitbit.
The feature analyses a user’s recent activity, vital signs and sleep before providing a daily score. That score is designed to help users decide whether they should rest, reduce their activity or exercise as normal.
Apple is also introducing a new longevity tab that assesses users across several health categories.
The tool examines areas including sleep, movement and heart health and compares a user’s performance with clinical guidance.
The new features further expand Apple’s focus on health and fitness tracking as it competes with other wearable devices and dedicated health trackers.
