Facebook and Instagram is down for many users, with thousands reporting login, app and messaging issues
Facebook and Instagram appear to be down for many users on Friday, with outage-tracking website Downdetector showing a sharp increase in reports across both platforms.
Facebook and Instagram down
According to the tracking website, for Facebook, 53% of complaints were linked to login issues, while 31% involved the app itself and 15% related to messaging problems.
Similarly, Instagram users also reported widespread disruptions, with nearly 1,100 complaints recorded and the majority, around 74%, tied to the app.
The affected users claim that they have been logged off from their Facebook account and cannot log back in. Using iPhones, the app gives an automatic notification that there could be a problem with the internet connectivity, even when the user's internet is working well. This news about the outage spread like wildfire over social media handles like Reddit and X as users showed their frustration.
Acknowledging the issue, the Instagram team posted a message, "Sorry, something went wrong", while the company added that they are fixing the problem. Users have found no posts in their searches, whereas some find that they cannot even refresh their pages. The outage seems to affect not only the application but the web page as well.
Facebook Messenger seems to be affected by the outage, as users have difficulty sending and loading their messages. Interestingly, WhatsApp and Threads, which are other social media apps owned by Meta, are running smoothly.
