Apple is updating its child safety features in iOS 27.The tech giant's announcement at WWDC 2026 represents one of the most substantial overhauls to its parental control architecture in years.

Tim cook's company is introducing changes to the safety tools built into its iPhone operating system to help protect children and give parents more control over how young users interact with devices.

Apple has often emphasized that safety features should help families without requiring unnecessary access to personal data.

By introducing age-guided clinical research directly into the setup process, iOS 27 moves away from arbitrary screen limits toward proactive, behavior-based safety.

As announced, the updates will include improvements to parental controls, age-appropriate content restrictions, communication safety tools, and features that help families manage apps, screen time, and online interactions.

The broader goal of these updates is to balance child protection, user privacy and allow parents to set boundaries and monitor device use.

With iOS 27, Apple is expected to continue focusing on making its devices safer for younger users.

To prevent unsolicited outreach, children are required to get parental approval before adding or communicating with a new contact across "messages, phone, and "FaceTime."

As per the newly introduced updates for iOS 27, children under 13 and above must request parental permission via Messages before accessing any unapproved website or embedded web element.
