Queen extols French feminist icon, says she made a great impression on her

Denmark's Queen Mary on Tuesday received French rape survivor Gisèle Pelicot at Cancellihuset in Fredensborg.

In an Instagram post that contained the two women's photos, the Queen praisedb Pelicot's courage and dignity during France’s largest rape case and her efforts to shift the shame onto perpetrators of sexual violence's.

The Danish language caption said, "In 2024 French woman Gisèle Pelicot – convinced that "shame should switch sides" – insisted on opening the doors to the trial in connection with France's largest rape case."

"Gisèle Pelicot's incredibly violent story and her courage to tell it openly has made a great impression on Her Majesty the Queen. So has the stoic calmness she has shown throughout the process, as has her dignified voice, which has created more public conversations about and deeper understanding of sexual violence against women."
