Cops uncover darker truth after responding to loose dog complaint
The community was shocked by how dozens of dogs had been kept at a property
A horror incident unfolded at a home in Johnstown, Fulton County, New York, where 27 dogs were found.
But among dozens of them, there was a dead animal.
The shocking discovery began with a report received by the Fulton County Sheriff's Dispatch Center.
It said that at least six dogs were seen let loose across a busy roadway on County Highway 122.
The deputies sprang into action, but what they found alarmed them more.
They saw dogs roaming back and forth and gathering at a nearby home.
Immediately, a search warrant was obtained to check the house.
There, the cops discovered 27 dogs living with one deceased canine.
This has led to a series of criminal charges against the dog owner, William J. Masten.
According to WRGB, he was arrested and facing 27 counts.
The pets at home were rescued from the property.
James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society, an animal shelter, took 16 dogs.
In a Facebook post, they issued an "urgent plea for help" for the four-legged animals.
In response to the post, the community answered.
The comment section has been flooded with support, donations, and offerings.
In the meantime, Masten will face the court at a later date.
