Andy Ogles faces backlash after controversial Pride Month tweet
Andy Ogles has previously faced criticism over inflammatory social media remarks as well
Republican Congressman Andy Ogles has deleted a controversial social media post stating that “homosexuality has no place in America” after facing criticism from fellow politicians, including members of his own party.
The Tennessee lawmaker posted the message on Tuesday alongside a reference to “Happy Nuclear Family Month,” an apparent response to Pride Month, which began this week across the United States.
The post quickly sparked backlash online. Republican Congressman Mike Lawler of New York publicly criticised Ogles on X, calling the message “absolutely idiotic.”
“Homosexuality exists. In America. In fact Andy, you have family, friends, neighbors, colleagues and constituents who are gay and lesbian. It doesn’t make them less than or somehow unworthy of being an American,” he wrote.
Ogles later removed the post from his account.
The Tennessee congressman has previously faced criticism over inflammatory social media remarks. Earlier this year, Ogles drew backlash after posting that “Muslims don’t belong in America.”
At the time, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries described Ogles as a “malignant clown and pathological liar who has fabricated his whole life story.”
