Nvidia unveils new CPU ‘superchip’ for Windows laptops: A new era for personal computers?
RTX Spark Superchip is seen as Nvidia's strategic move to take on Intel, AMD and Apple
Nvidia unveiled a new and powerful CPU chip on Monday for desktop PCs and Windows laptops, thereby marking its entry in the PC market.
The announcement came at the COMPUTEX 2026 conference in Taiwan when Jensen Huang, the CEO of Nvidia, revealed the strategy to take on Intel and AMD by launching the new line of processors, called the RTX Spark Superchip.
According to Huang, earlier the chips were only designed for the locally hosted AI agents, now with collaboration with Microsoft, Windows laptops and PCs will also feature the new chips.
Specifications of RTX Spark
The new chip consists of a hybrid design containing a central processing unit of up to 20 cores with a Blackwell-generation processor containing 6,144 cores.
The product is a combination of microprocessor and graphics chip that will run Microsoft Corp.’s Windows for Arm operating system.
The key features involve the utilization of NVLink interface to bring data-center-grade communication to personal computers. It will also feature shared built-in memory for improved handling of large AI models and high-end gaming.
The RTX Spark is manufactured by TSMC using their 3N process technology.
Talking about the performance goal, the product is designed for the premium market, focusing on delivering high power in thin and light form factors.
Availability of chips
According to Bloomberg, the product will be launched this fall in laptops and desktops, including HP, Dell, Lenovo, Asus, Acer, and MSI, Huang said during the conference.
A strategic move to rival Intel, AMD
According to some widely circulating reports, Nvidia’s upcoming chips have the potential to take on the personal computer processor market’s dominant players such as Intel and AMD.
The dominance of Nvidia in AI and data centers is quite indisputable. The recent strategic expansion in the PCs market will further diversify Nvidia’s footprint and give it an edge in the consumer hardware market, characterized by its immense resources as compared to its competitors like Qualcomm. The new Nvidia-powered laptops could also compete with Apple’s Macbook line.
The chip also lies at the heart of Nvidia’s push to embed AI directly into end-user devices, aiming to transform PCs into personal assistants which perform various tasks such as searching email, fixing coding bugs and accelerating generative AI features in software including Adobe Photoshop.
Besides the RTX Spark superchip, Nvidia also unveiled a new AI agent chip called Vera Rubin.
According to Huang, “Vera was aimed specifically at running AI agents, and that it could deliver 80% faster agentic task completion compared to current technology.”
As per official reports, next-generation Vera Rubin chip has entered its full production to boost AI agentic factories globally.
