Netflix drops Michael Jackson docuseries trailer as biopic in theatres: 'They timed this one'
Netflix's Michael Jackson docuseries comes as 'Michael' is in theatres
As a biopic on Michael Jackson is running in theatres globally, Netflix dropped an explosive trailer spotlighting the megastar's stressful days.
It is about the much-covered 2005 Michael Jackson trial.
The three-part docuseries is titled Michael Jackson: The Verdict.
It will come out on June 3.
Why did we make the Michael Jackson docuseries?
Nick Green serves as the director and Fiona Stourton as executive producer.
In a chat with Tudum, the filmmakers explained why they created the documentary.
"It felt like the right time to revisit the trial and its lingering questions."
“It has been 20 years since the trial of Michael Jackson in which he was found not guilty," the makers continued.
"It was time to take a forensic look at the trial as a whole.”
Though the superstar was acquitted of all charges. However, the trial's ghosts have never left Jackson.
Not even after his death in 2009.
'What timing!'
However, what many viewers noted is the timing of the trailer.
Michael – starring Jaafar Jackson – is inching closer to reaching the coveted billion-dollar mark at the box office.
Social media users cannot help but notice the striking coincidence.
"Really releasing this while Michael is still playing in theatres," one social media user wrote.
Another added, "They timed this one."
"Netflix isn't slick; the timing is so obvious," a third added.
