Trump plans executive orders to tackle rising beef prices in the US
A White House official said the measures are designed to address supply shortages after the US cattle herd fell to its lowest level in 75 years
US President Donald Trump is expected to sign executive orders aimed at increasing beef imports and rebuilding the country’s shrinking cattle herd as beef prices continue to rise.
A White House official said the measures are designed to address supply shortages after the US cattle herd fell to its lowest level in 75 years.
According to reports from The Wall Street Journal, one of the orders would temporarily suspend tariff-rate quotas on imported beef, allowing larger quantities of meat to enter the country at lower tariff rates.
The outlet also reported that Trump plans to direct the Small Business Administration to expand lending support for ranchers struggling with rising costs and reduced herd numbers.
Additional measures could include reducing protections for grey wolves and Mexican wolves under the Endangered Species Act, following complaints from ranchers about livestock losses caused by predators.
The White House has not yet released full details of the executive orders.
The move comes as food inflation and rising meat prices remain a major issue for American consumers.
