Savannah Guthrie family faces saddest Mother’s Day as they have no idea where Nancy is
Nancy Guthrie’s fate still remains unknown as Savannah and the family spend Mother’s Day sans her
As Mother's Day approaches, Savannah Guthrie still doesn't know where her mom, Nancy – who has been missing for nearly 100 days – is.
Dr. Jenny Shields, an expert psychologist, says, “For many families, Mother’s Day is a joyful blur of brunch reservations, flowers, and handmade cards."
However, for others, "the second Sunday in May is the heaviest day of the year."
Navigating such an emotional minefield is a challenge for the Guthrie family.
They are already reeling from Nancy's mysterious disappearance.
Shields explains it like this, “The first Mother’s Day after a loss often carries a particular kind of pain. ‘Firsts’ in grief have a way of amplifying absence."
The expert further tells Parade, "The empty chair feels louder. The silence feels sharper."
Facing the situation of a loss or disappearance deals a blow to their loved ones' emotional state.
"Celebration and sorrow collide in ways people rarely expect until they experience it themselves.”
What's worse, Nancy's unknown fate further compounded the family's pain.
A day earlier, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos suggested the authorities are close to solving the mystery.
However, investigations have yet to find the suspect in the 84-year-old's presumed kidnapping.
