Kevin McKidd is "very excited" at the prospect of starring in the Harry Potter TV series.

The 52-year-old actor recently left Grey's Anatomy after 18 seasons playing Dr. Owen Hunt, and it has recently been speculated his next project will be playing Arthur Weasley in HBO's upcoming adaptation of J.K. Rowling's best-selling book series.

And while Kevin didn't confirm the casting rumour, which came about after Gracie Cochrane, who will play Ginny Weasley, began following him on Instagram, he admitted he'd love to be involved.

He told Entertainment Weekly, "I saw something about this. And listen, I would never say never. I'm a massive Harry Potter fan."

The Scottish actor explained he was originally in line for a role in the final two movies in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Part 2, but had to turn down the part.

He said, "When I did a show called Journeyman before Grey's, we were on the bubble and waiting to find out if we we're picked up [for season 2] or not.”

"So, I was under contract and [director] David Yates sent me a letter offering me a role in the final two Harry Potter films, and I was unable to do it because I was waiting to hear if Journeyman was picked up or not, and then it was not picked up,” the actor further stated.

Kevin continued, "So, I missed out on that chance of being in the final two Harry Potter films back in the day, which still makes me sad...”

"The idea of getting another crack at that, because I was asked to be in it once, already gets me very excited. So, listen, if those rumours can turn into something real, I would be very happy about that,” he expressed.

Kevin McKidd noted he was asked to play "some kind of werewolf character" in the films, likely referring to Fenrir Greyback, a role ultimately played by Dave Legeno.

Meanwhile, the actor's Grey's Anatomy exit saw his character Owen and longtime on/off love interest Teddy (Kim Raver) reconcile and move to Paris for her new job.
