Martin Short reflects on his decades-long friendship with Steve Martin
Martin Short opens up about his relationship with 'Only Murders in the Building' co-star Steve Martin
Martin Short recently reflected on his first meeting with Steve Martin, especially the first thought that crossed his mind.
On Thursday, May 7, Short attended a panel with his fellow comedians Paul Shaffer and David Letterman at the Netflix Is a Joke Presents: This Better Be Funny with David Letterman event in Los Angeles.
During the panel discussion, the 76-year-old Canadian comedian and actor reminisced about his decades-long friendship with Martin, sharing how he actually met his Only Murders in the Building co-star in 1985 after appearing on Letterman's show.
Calling to mind, he said, “Then I flew to Los Angeles to pick up the script for Three Amigos from his house. I walked in and saw all this incredible art and said, 'How did you get this rich? Because I've seen your act.’”
Short went on to tell the audience that the memorable encounter became the foundation of their everlasting bond, quipping, “We've been close ever since.”
The legendary Hollywood pair then starred together in the 1986 film Three Amigos! that also played a pivotal role in their friendship.
“One thing about movies is you spend months together and then never see each other again. Steve and I made a conscious decision not to let that happen," the Innerspace star noted.
It is pertinent to mention that Martin Short and Steve Martin have "probably done 35 shows a year together for over a decade. The titles keep changing. The Dukes of Funnytown. Two Wild and Crazy Guys. Things like that.”
