Police later tracked down the suspect at an address on the outskirts of the city and took the 17-year-old into custody
A teenager has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder after three people were found dead inside a home in Brockville, Ontario, police said.
According to Brockville police, officers were called to a residence on Cartier Court at about 11:30 AM on Thursday. When they arrived, they discovered the three victims inside the home.
Police later tracked down the suspect at an address on the outskirts of the city and took the 17-year-old into custody.
The accused has also been charged with assaulting a police officer.
In a statement posted on Facebook, police said the victims and the accused were known to one another and confirmed the incident was not random.
“This investigation is sensitive and complex. We recognize the profound impact this incident has on the families, loved ones, and the community,” police said in the post.
Authorities have not released the identities of the victims or the accused. Under Canada’s Youth Criminal Justice Act, the teenager cannot be publicly named.
Police have not shared further details about the circumstances surrounding the deaths as the investigation continues.
The accused is expected to appear in court for a bail hearing on Friday.
