iPhone 18 Pro leak reveals smaller Dynamic Island upgrade
Leaked specs reveal smaller display cutout, pro-grade camera controls, and A20 chip as Apple prepares its September 2026 flagship
The iPhone 18 Pro is shaping up to be more than an incremental update. Leaked CAD renders and component schematics reveal Apple is preparing a refinement of its premium flagship, with a 25% smaller Dynamic Island, a variable aperture camera system, and the A20 Pro chip built on cutting-edge 2nm silicon arriving in September 2026.
For three generations, users have accepted the pill-shaped cutout as the price of Face ID security. That compromise is ending.
Apple iPhone 18 specs leak
The iPhone 18 Pro's Dynamic Island is expected to shrink to around 14.98 mm in width, roughly 25% smaller than the iPhone 17 Pro, by relocating the Face ID flood illuminator beneath the display.
The infrared camera will remain visible, keeping facial recognition intact while delivering a noticeably cleaner front design.
The camera system receives its largest enhancement through this update. A variable aperture on the main sensor, a feature typically reserved for professional cameras, lets users physically adjust light intake for creative control.
The system provides two aperture options which produce different results: wider apertures create softer backgrounds with enhanced low-light capabilities while stopping down produces sharper results for landscape photography.
Apple's zoom photography system will achieve better results in difficult lighting situations because it now includes a telephoto lens with wider aperture options. The new camera controls now use pressure sensors instead of touch-sensitive controls, which helps users make precise adjustments because it stops them from making unintentional changes.
What AI features to expect from Apple iPhone 18?
The A20 Pro achieves better performance through its 2 nm process technology, which requires less power to operate. The system achieves power efficiency because it can perform complicated artificial intelligence operations on devices without depleting battery power, which benefits users who need access to advanced AI features in iOS 27.
Siri acquires new contextual vision functions which enable users to use their phones for real-time identification of objects and recognition of landmarks and analysis of their surroundings. Siri will evolve into a conversational assistant instead of remaining a basic query tool through its improved connection with the Google Gemini model.
Apple plans to create a unified rear design for its products through a new design approach that combines glass and aluminium into one continuous surface which will replace the current separate design style used in its recent products. The Pro finish of the device will showcase a rumoured "Deep Red" colour option as its main visual element.
