Elon Musk owned SpaceX and Anthropic have entered a strategic computing partnership to meet increasing AI demands.

The highly-anticipated deal will give Anthropic access to SpaceX’s vast data center, helping the US-based artificial intelligence company to keep a pace with surging demands for Claude AI services.

Anthropic will utilize more than 300 megawatts of computing capacity from Colossus 1, a large SpaceX data center in Memphis. By leveraging this strategic partnership, Anthropic aims to increase its computing resources and usage limits for Claude Code and Claude API.

Under this agreement, Anthropic will also gain access to over within one month.

“This will give us over 300 megawatts of additional capacity backed by 220,000 Nvidia AI chips to deploy within the month,” Anthropic said in an announcement.

The additional capacity will immediately double the usage limits for Claude Code and the Claude API, removing many of the restrictions that previously frustrated power users during peak hours.

“It will also remove the peak hours limit reduction on Claude Code for Pro and Max plans and substantially raise our API rate limits for Opus models,” the statement added.

Further terms of deal have not been disclosed yet. The agreement likely represents a massive windfall for xAI. Recent industry benchmarks for data center leases suggest that developers are currently securing rates between $1.5 million and $2 million per megawatt annually.

As part of the new agreement, Anthropic said it has also “expressed interest in partnering with SpaceX to develop multiple gigawatts of orbital AI compute capacity.”

Soon after the deal, Musk also announced the dissolution of xAI on Wednesday. Taking to X, Musk posted, “xAI will be dissolved as a separate company, so it will just be SpaceXAI, the AI products from SpaceX.”

The recent collaboration also signals a major shift in the relationship of tech moguls who have been at odds publicly.
