Sherrod Brown wins Ohio Democratic Senate nomination, setting up intense race against John Husted
Brown defeated challenger Ron Kincaid to win the Democratic primary while Husted ran unopposed for the Republican nomination
Sherrod Brown has secured the Democratic nomination for the US Senate in Ohio, setting up a closely watched race against Republican John Husted that could help decide control of the chamber.
According to the Associated Press, Brown defeated challenger Ron Kincaid to win the Democratic primary while Husted ran unopposed for the Republican nomination.
The winner of the general election will serve the remaining two years of the Senate term previously held by JD Vance, who stepped down after winning the 2024 presidential election alongside Donald Trump.
Brown, a former senator who lost his re-election bid in 2024, said voters were looking for change.
"Ohioans are fed up with the corruption and greed in Washington. They deserve a senator who fights for working families, not CEOs and billionaires. That’s why we’re going to win this November,” Brown said on social media.
Husted also responded after receiving praise from Trump.
"Thanks President Trump! Your support for Ohio jobs means a lot to the hardworking people of our state. The Working Family Tax Cut is helping Ohio families keep more of what they earn so they can spend, save, and invest in their own priorities," Husted wrote.
"America First! Ohio First!" he said.
The Ohio Senate race is expected to be one of several key contests that will determine whether Republicans maintain their narrow majority or Democrats regain control.
